Tegexi (Tegshi)

Tegexi, a native Mongol from Khorchin Left Wing Rear Banner of Inner Mongolia, 31 years old, was an official in Inner Mongolian foreign affair office. He was sentenced to 10 years in jail in Dec 1996. He was charged by the Chinese authorities to separate the country.

Southern Mongolian Democratic Alliance (SMDA)

The SMDA (Southern Mongolian Democracy Alliance) was founded in May 1992 in Hohhot, the capital city of Inner Mongolia. Mr. Hada was the chairman of the SMDA.

The goals of the SMDA are:

• To promote the values of human rights and democracy in Inner Mongolia;
• To end the Han (Chinese) colonial rule in Inner Mongolia;
• To achieve self-independence, freedom, and democracy in Inner Mongolia;

In the end of 1995, the SMDA organized a series of peaceful demonstrations in Hohhot demanding religious, cultural, economical and political rights of the Mongols that are guaranteed by the constitution of the People's Republic of China but the government has never materialized.

Shorty after those demonstration, Hada, Tegexi along with a dozen Mongols were arrested by the Chinese authorities.
