IMPP Member and Citizen of Mongolia

Arrested in Beijing

Jiranbayariin Soyolt, member of Inner Mongolian People’s Party, and citizen of Mongolia, was arrested while a business trip to Beijing on January 6, 2008.

According to the source from SMHRIC, along with two other Mongolian citizens Mr. Purevsuren, President of Energeo HHK, and his partner Mr. Bat.Erdene, Jiranbayariin Soyolt left Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia by China Airlines on January 6, 11:45AM and arrived at Beijing Capital Airport at 1 PM on the same day.  From Purevsuren and Bat-Erden, we know Soyolt was handcuffed and surrounded by five policemen at the custom office.  Soyolt asked Purevsure to contact his family and Embassy of Mongolia in Beijing on his behalf.  Soyolt’s family members in Ulaanbaatar immediatedly sent an appeal to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia calling for Soyolt’s immediate release.  After weeks of contacts between Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and Chinese authorities, the Beijing Public Security authorities confirmed that Soyolt did enter China through Beijing Capital Airport on January 6, 2008, but they denied any knowledge of Soyolt’s whereabouts.

The Inner Mongolian’s People’s Party condemns this irresponsible action by Chinese authorities. These authorities have been arresting foreign citizens for no reason. In particular, we are very concerned about the safety of Soyolt, and we urge the government of Mongolia take appropriate actions to push Beijing to release Jiranbayariin Soyolt, citizen of Mongolia.
