Demonstration in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia IMPP New York June30,2011A worldwide campaign relay was held on May 29th&30th by the Mongolians in Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), Huhhot (Inner Mongolia), Stockholm, Amsterdam, New York City, and Washington D.C. The protests were sparked by two incidents of brutal killing of two Mongolians by the Chinese. In particular, on May 10th in Right Ujumchin Banner, Southern Mongolia, the herder Mergen was run over by a coal truck and dragged for almost 150 meters. Mergen was killed instantly. According to SMHRIC, a series of demonstrations were held all over the Southern Mongolia since this incident. From Right Ujumchin Banner to Shiliinhot and then to Huhhot, the capital of Southern Mongolia. As a result, Chinese authorities declared martial law in many major cities such as Huhhot, Ulaanhad, and Tongliao.
Demonstration in Stockholm, Sweden. In order to show the support, people from all over the world gathered in front of their local Chinese embassy or consulate at 12:00pm local time on May 29th in Western Hemisphere/May 30th in Eastern Hemisphere. During the demonstrations, demonstrators were shouting slogans and holding signs like: "Justice for Mergen", "China out of Southern Mongolia","Stop the Killings in Southern Mongolia',"You built the Wall, the Wall is the border, Go back to your side of the Great Wall" and etc.
Demonstrations in Tokyo, Japan. In Tokyo, Japan, in front of Chinese embassy, the Secretary IMPP, Khuvisgalt Khereid read and submitted a petition letter to the Chinese Government, demanding Chinese government to respect the rights of herders and give justice to Mergen and his family. Demonstration in New York City, U.S. People from all walks of life joined this campaign relay to show their support to Southern Mongolians. Among them are Mongolians from Mongolia, Tibetans, Uyghurs, Chinese and local peace-loving nationals. In New York City, many Tibetans joined us and helped us for a successful campaign.
