Members of the IMPP European Branch and others held a peaceful gathering on April 13 to commemorate the sixth death anniversary of Muren Davasambuu, a tireless fighter for the rights of Mongol people in Southern Mongolia.

The ceremony was held at the Cathedral of Uppsala, Sweden. Members of IMPP brought flowers to the monument of Muren Davasambuu to pay him respect and the representative of IMPP European branch gave a speech. The speech highly praised the work of Mr. Davasambuu for the democracy and freedom  movement in Southern Mongolia. It also expressed a strong will for carrying on Davasambuu’s unfulfilled mission to fight for the freedom of Southern Mongolian people.

Muren Davasambuu was born in the Chiese-occupied Southern Mongolia in 1964.  He studied history at Inner Mongolia University and was actively involved in the Mongol student movement of 1981. Davasambuu went to the independent state of Mongolia in 1990 where he joined the Southern Mongolian independence movement abroad through his activities of publishing and organizing. He established the influential “Demchugdonrov Society” and “Southern Mongolian Human Rights Alliance”; founded newspaper “Mongol Spot” and published a book “ The Sad History of Southern Mongolia” to document the cruelty of Chinese rule in his homeland. He died in March, 2003 in Uppsala, Sweden.
